Abstract Submission

The overall goal of this workshop is to showcase and integrate current research and applications of sustainable, ecologically-based watershed management around the world. Specifically, researchers and practitioners will provide examples and lessons learned from the implementation of ecologically-based watershed management for use by watershed managers in China.

Abstracts are being accepted until 21 April 2011 5pm Eastern Standard Time, USA.

Who should submit abstracts:
Any researcher, practitioner or manager in sustainable watershed management or related fields.

Preferred presentations:
Each non-concurrent session will include one longer presentation to provide the theoretical framework and current state of knowledge on the topic. This will be followed by 3 to 4 case studies that will give detailed assessments of the successes and failures in applying this framework to watershed management. Therefore, presentations that can demonstrate the use of these theoretical frameworks will be given priority.

Abstract Instructions:
Within your abstract, please address the following:

  • Abstract submissions must be submitted in English.
  • Eco-hydrologic/human dimensions concept to be addressed (see the list below for choices)
  • Detailed description of the case study or research project to be showcased
  • Lessons learned/take home messages for the application to Chinese watershed management
  • 300 word limit
  • Topics covered will include: the natural hydrologic regime, groundwater-surface water linkages, drainage networks, floodplain protection, soil organic matter, adaptive management, or human dimensions/economics of water management. Please see the topics page for a more detailed explanation of each.
  • Please include your full name, organization, address, phone number and email address in the document (does not count towards the 300 word limit).
  • Abstracts will be accepted via email at watershed-wrkshp@cornell.edu. Please use the following subject line “Abstract submission – topic title.” Please title your document, “Lead author’s last name_topic title”.
  • Virtual Participation is encouraged from interested individuals who have relevant case studies but are unable to attend the Workshop. If your abstract is selected, we will follow-up with a request for several Powerpoint slides along with short text to include in the subsequent paper, with acknowledgement/authorship as appropriate. Please specify that your submission is for the Oral Presentation or the Virtual Participation.
