The Arnot helps support the teaching, extension, and research mission of the Department of Natural Resources and Cornell University. These opportunities are provided in the context of a multiple-use, managed forest, producing timber and maple products and providing recreational opportunities for the public.

Woodlot management, forest ecology, ornithology, and resource economics are some of the courses that conduct field exercises at the Arnot. The Arnot also hosts annual educational training workshops for Cornell Cooperative Extension. A woodland wildlife habitat demonstration plot is established as a self-guided tour or through the internet at: . Current research projects include studies of breeding bird populations, forest gap analysis, and forest stand dynamics.
